Alma

 Alma

It’s a snowy day and the streets are empty as I hop along the covered ground. I look over to the wall beside me and find a thousands of names written on it so I decide to reach in a my pocket to get my chalk and write my name on because why not. I hear a sound, an old creepy sound from the abandoned toy store behind me, I slowly turn around and see someone or something in the window, I carefully walk towards the window and wipe the fog off of it I suddenly begin to worry… It’s a creepy doll but not just a doll, she looks identical to me! I check my outfit to compare myself to the doll, then i look back up and it's gone...

When I look in the window to see where she went I find her, in the middle of the room. I try to open the door, I push and pull but it’s locked so I stomp away angrily, but as I take a few steps I hear a creek, I turn around and find that the door is open! Of course I enter the room because why not, I slowly walk towards the door and I see thousands of creepy dolls around me and I finally spot the one that looks me, I try to climb up to get it and I finally reach it… Suddenly my life flashes before my eyes, then I realised I had become the doll, as hard as I try I can't move. As hard as I try I cant open my mouth. Then I realised, this shop was to capture all the children it could, its evil. Then I watch the next doll appear waiting for its child to capture...

The last day of term 3

Today is the last day of term 3 :) I will tell you what I did today. First we came into class and marked ourselves off next, went outside to watch the term achievers, then we went back into class and worked on our priorities. And then it was morning tea and I played handball. We then went to Kapa Haka outside on the courts. And after that, we went back to class and worked on our priorities again I worked on maths whizz because I had already finished my priorities.

After that it was lunch and I went in line to get my ice cream, it was hokey pokey flavoured by the way. I went to watch a netball game that my friends were playing in, it was them versus the teachers, my ice cream started melting down my hand then, it got on my hoodie and shoes so it was very hard for me to eat. Next lunch was over so we went back inside and now i'm writing this.

Pihita Farm

Kia ora, on the 15th of September 2020 we went on a school trip to a farm. We went on a bus to get there at about 9:30am and came back to school at around 1:00pm-2:20pm. It was really fun, first we split up into different groups and went to see what vehicles they have, they have big tractors, quad bikes and things like that.

After that we went to see a drone that they use to look around the farm, the drone has a camera connected to it and you can see the footage on a phone. After that we got to chase sheep around like farm dogs and it was really fun.

Next, we saw the farm dogs chase the sheep, there were two dogs, one dog was very noisy and liked to bark at the sheep and the other farm dog was quiet. We then walked over to see a dairy cow and watched it get milked or whatever, and we got to eat whipped cream and it was really good. After that we went to go watch how they cut meat but it was disgusting to watch so Te Atawhai and I sat out. Then, we went to look at the traps they use to capture pests. The traps were very very very loud and scary. Lastly we had morning tea

And went on a bus back to school.

Pollution

 Describe different forms of pollution

The three major forms of pollution are: water pollution, air pollution and land pollution. Water pollution is when litter ends up in the ocean causing sea animals to mistake litter for food and they usually suffocate or choke. Land pollution is when litter ends up on land, harming farm animals. Air pollution is when gas or chemicals gets released in the air.

Why is pollution dangerous?

Pollution is not only dangerous for animals, humans can be harmed as well. Air pollution is very bad for humans, it makes our air full of bad gas and chemicals that we're not supposed to breathe in. Water pollution is also dangerous for humans because litter is dirty and when litter goes into the water it makes it dirty. Did you know that 5,000 people die a day because they drank dirty water

This is part of my quickwrite :)

Maths

Rounding decimals to the nearest tenth

Hello, I have been learning how to round decimals to the nearest tenth in my maths workshop. I will be showing you how to do this.

1. Round 34.09 to the nearest tenth

First, you look at the numbers after the decimal. If the number is 4 and under then you will round it down. But if the number is 5 and over you will round it up.

example: round 564

the last number is a 4 which means we will be rounding down so the answer would be 560

So if you rounded 34.09 to the nearest tenth it would be 34.1 (there should only be 1 number after the decimal)

Reading

Hello, today I will be sharing with you a part of my quick write that is about reading and why you should read.

What are the benefits of reading?

Reading books such as recipe books, true stories, guide books, encyclopedias and many others can teach you new skills like cooking, travelling and discovering new facts about the world.Children are reading less and less every day, only 35% of children in England like reading “very much”, that's even less countries like Russia, Ireland New Zealand and Australia. Worst of all, studies have shown that 20% of children in England read well by age 11. Reading is a very important skill, throughout life being able to read will be vital. People who read more are usually able to get better job opportunities, reading for pleasure also has benefits, children who read more at age 10 usually get better marks in tests. Today's digital world means that many kids are less likely to read than in the past. With all this technology reading is no longer the main form of entertainment.

Thanks for reading this week's blog post!

Maths Whizz

ello, today I will be telling you about Maths Whizz, Maths Whizz is a fun maths program that has different levels, when you reach the end of your very first level you can customize your avatar and you can wear whatever you like. Each person has different math questions because if you get an answer wrong then the program will give you easier questions, but if you get one right then it will give you harder questions.

I like Maths Whizz because its a fun way to learn, you can reach different levels and you can recieve coins to buy other things such as: pets, clothing and more.

Maths

Hi, today I will be sharing with you what I learn in my maths workshop, we are learning how to turn a fraction into a decimal. I didn't know how to do this before but it is pretty easy. First you take a fraction like this: 6 7/10  and 8/100 which would be 6.78 in a decimal the way I did this is first I put the whole number (6) and put it before the decimal and then i put 7/10 in the 10's column and 8/100 in the hundreds column.

Now, I will give you one to solve! turn 15 24/100 into a decimal. There is no 10 for this one so remember that.

Thanks for reading this! :)

Household Chores

Should children help with household chores?

In my opinion yes, I think children should help with household chores because they can keep you fit, it can teach you about time management and responsibility, sometimes you might get a little bit of pocket money and the parents or adults don't have to do all of the work. More than three quarters (76 percent) of children in the UK don't do household chores, it has increased A LOT since the olden days when children had to make dinner for their family and fix the family car. I think children should do chores like: doing the dishes, making your bed, making dinner and ect.

What household chores would you enjoy doing and why?

I don't do any household chores but, if I did I would enjoy making dinner and doing the washing. I would enjoy doing these because i love cooking, it's fun and easy. Doing the washing is easy and very helpful for the family.

What household chores are your least favorite and why?

My least favorite chores would be sweeping, doing the dishes and making my bed. I don't like doing the dishes its hard and I don't like getting my hands dirty. Sweeping is boring, and making my bed isn't that fun and i'm too lazy to do it every day.

If you could choose between homework and housework which one would you choose and why?

If I had to choose I would definitely choose housework because I think school work should be at school, and housework is much more fun than homework. Doing housework keeps you active and doing homework is just sitting down doing school work. And sometimes you might get a little bit of money.

LTP

Hi, today I will be sharing with you what I like to do in LTP (Learning Through Play) LTP is where we all have to choose an activity to do such as, makey makey, Junky monkey, cardboard nation and planet construct. You have to stick to one for 1 hour, my friend and I chose makey makey which comes with a makey makey computer, alligator clips, construction sheet and a usb cord. First we connected the usb cord to my chromebook, then we didn't know what to do next so we looked at the instructions, we then realized we had to get an object to connect to the alligator clips so my friend went and got an orange. Next we connected an alligator clip to the orange which was connected to the arrow on the makey makey, then we connected an alligator clip to earth (down the bottom) which we then connected to our finger. we pulled up a site named 'makey makey piano' so when we touched the orange it would play a note. Makey makey is really fun and I can't wait to do it again, thanks for reading :) Nina

Endangered Animals

Hi, today i will be sharing what i did my quick write about. I wrote my quick write about endangered animals, we had to answer 4 questions, 1. what does "endangered" mean? 2. In what way are humans responsible for endangering animals? 3. Why must we protect endangered animals? 4. What can humans do to protect endangered animals?. Now I will show you what I wrote in my book below.

When an animal is "endangered" it means their at an extremely high risk of being extinct, and not many animals are left in the world. 200-2,00 animals extinctions occur every year! Tigers, Rhinoceros, Polar bears and Pandas are endangered today. The Tiger is one of the most endangered animals in the world, we only have 3,900 left, but 30 years ago we had about 100,000.

Humans are responsible for endangering animals because of the pollution humans release in the air, it is destroying animals habitats. Humans also eat and hunt animals for their tusks, for example a long time ago there was a species of birds called "Dodo". When hungry sailors arrived on the island of Mauritius, they ate the Dodo birds and soon these birds became endangered. A few months later, they were extinct.

We should protect endangered animals because they are a big part of our planet and without them the Earth would become a horrible place, if we let endangered animals go extinct we will be at risk with our own health, because we won't have much nature and without nature there is no oxygen.

Humans can protect endangered animals by walking or biking instead of driving, eating less meat, recycling/less pollution and spreading risks around the world. If humans produce less smoke and gas, animals homes will become safer. Sadly, cars produce lots of bad chemicals into our Earth so do planes, motorcycles and any other vehicles. Let's do some of these things to save our Earth!

Our Just Dance Performance

Hello, on the 1st of July, my friend (Te Atawhai) and I had to perform our just dance in front of the whole 2 classes! Everyone else had to do this as well, first we had to choose which Just Dance we wanted to perform. We could either choose: TImber, Waka Waka or Hand clap. My friend and I chose Timber which involves a group of 2. Most of the boys chose Waka Waka which has a group of 4, and not many groups did Hand clap (group of 3).

We had about 9 groups perform, my friend and I were second last to perform. We were very nervous because the whole 2 classes would be watching us on stage, everyone who performed were so good and their costumes matched the dance completely. When the teacher called us to perform we stood up and put our accessories on, my friend was the panda and I was the lady. All I wore was a hat but my friend wore a big panda hat. Overall I think we did very bad. And I think the boys in the tutus dancing to Waka Waka will win.
